Amanda Tiger is 22 years old and was rescued by Big Cat Rescue in 2011. She came with her siblings Andre, who is still with us and Arthur, who sadly passed last year. Amanda is the more reserved of the siblings and prefers to keep her distance from people. It was noticed by her keepers that Amanda had a sore on her foot, which on closer inspection turned out to be an ingrown dew claw. The claw needed to be removed, so Dr Justin came to sedate her and take a closer look.
We avoid sedating our cats unless it is 100% necessary, as the sedation can be very hard on their bodies, especially in older cats. On occasions like this, when a cat has to be sedated, we make the most of the time and carry out as many exams and tests as possible. This usually involves but is not limited to, blood tests, dental checks and an overall physical exam. Take a look as Amanda is seen by the vet!
